ASA is often called “ABS for outdoor use”
Why choose it?
- You want a material with mostly the same properties as with ABS but with better UV resistance. On medical products, ASA is a common choice since the products need to be clear white and remain that way.
Why not choose it?
- Poor chemical resistance
- Prone to environmental stress cracking (a reason not to use ASA on medical products)
Typical applications:
- Surfaces of medical products that should keep their white color. (If the product is often wiped with strong detergents, PBT is a safer choice)
- Component of a garden watering system (questionable if a good choice)
